Soundscape - The beginning - Ahmed Bhutta/Artis Silins/Mantis

The Historic text we chose:

Artas had carried out the research finding this text:

"It is the death of a beast-fighter, you say. Is it less, because of that, the blood of a man? Or is it viler blood because it is from the veins of a wicked man? At any rate it is shed in murder." Tertullian, Apology (IX)

Mantis had worked with the text building and creating a monologue from the prisoner's point of view, which is shown below:

I was just a salesman and I brought bread on the table for my family. I did what I was supposed to do, that which was expected of me but it was never appreciated. I was not meant for fighting, this was never my dream. Now however, as we speak, I walk through the empty hall leading me to my destiny. The crowd are cheering on anticipating the so-called show. Thoughts run through the busy streets of my mind as I walk reluctantly.
What makes me different from Ceasar? different from the kings and queens of today? Why do they think my soul different from their own?
"It is the death of a beast-fighter, you say. Is it less, because of that, the blood of a man? Or is it viler blood because it is from the veins of a wicked man? At any rate it is shed in murder."
The animal is driven by instincts, that is nature. It may kill me, but it is not the murderer. No, it is undoubtedly the people who lead me here who are the wicked ones. Yet they do not see, like the people of ancient Rome, the beast may eat me alive, but they are indeed the murderers.
And so I lay there with my neck squeezed between the venomous teeth of the crowd, the leaders, the bystanders and the people of Rome, as I take one last glimpse at my true enemy.

After having received the monologue from Mantas, I, Ahmed, begun recording various versions of the monologue to get the right feel for the film. I recorded 6 different version before finalising of the 6th version to present to the class. I had listened carefully to "the coming of age scene" in the film 300 to aim to get the right feel for our film, as in that scene there is also a voiceover monologue. I followed this idea of a strenuous voice in a bid to get the right feel for our film as the gladiator will inevitably be walking to his death. The different versions are in links below which you can listen to if you wish so:

Artas had already begun building and designing concepts for the main arena:

These are some concepts that I (Artis) had started to design and build. The one I scraped:
